New Baby Turkey Chili

A cozy crockpot recipe perfect for new parents (or anyone craving comfort in a bowl)

There’s something about bringing food to a family with a new baby that just feels like love in edible form. Over the years, this New Baby Turkey Chili has become my go-to dish to deliver to friends who’ve just welcomed little ones. It’s hearty enough to be filling, yet nourishing with wholesome ingredients that give that “home-cooked hug” feeling.

What makes this chili extra special is its balance: creamy coconut milk, protein-packed turkey and quinoa, sweet potatoes for a touch of comfort, and a hint of spice and warmth from ginger, garlic, and fire-roasted tomatoes. Everything simmers together in the slow cooker, which means hands-off cooking while the flavors meld beautifully.

Whether you’re dropping it off to bless a friend, meal-prepping for your own busy week, or simply craving a big comforting bowl, this recipe hits all the right notes.

Ingredients

(these are based on taste so adjust as you like it)

  • 1 lb ground turkey

  • 2 cans diced fire roasted tomatoes

  • 16 oz of chicken bone broth

  • 1 can of full fat coconut milk

  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste

  • Fire roasted corn (frozen is fine)

  • 1 can of white beans

  • 1 cup of uncooked quinoa (rinsed under cold water)

  • 2–4 tablespoons of white miso paste

  • 1–2 diced sweet potatoes (I like to peel mine but it’s not necessary)

  • 4 cloves of crushed garlic

  • 1 large nub of ginger, diced super small or grated

  • Mirepoix (diced carrots, white onion, celery — I like the precut container from TJs)

  • Spices to taste:

    • Cumin (2 TB)

    • Onion powder (2 teaspoons)

    • Turmeric (1 teaspoon)

    • Cayenne pepper (1 teaspoon)

    • Salt, pepper

Directions

  1. Cook ground turkey in a skillet on medium-high until brown. Season with salt & pepper to taste.

  2. Add all ingredients into the slow cooker. Set on low for 6 hours or high for 4 hours, until the sweet potatoes are tender and quinoa is cooked.

  3. Stir after the time is up. Taste and adjust the spices as needed.

  4. Garnish with green onions, cheese, or cilantro. I love to stir in a dollop of Greek yogurt at the end for some extra creaminess.

Serving Suggestions

  • For new parents: Portion it into freezer-safe containers so they can reheat easily.

  • For weeknight dinner: Serve with crusty bread or over rice for extra heartiness.

  • For meal prep: It keeps beautifully in the fridge for 4–5 days and freezes like a dream.

This chili is more than a meal… It’s comfort, convenience, and nourishment all in one pot. Exactly what’s needed when life feels busy, messy, or joyfully full of new beginnings.
